What is the problem?
Why do i need filtered shower water?

We shower daily and consequently our skin, hair and body are constantly being bombarded and exposed to the chemicals added to our water to make it safe like chlorine and ammonia gas as well as flocculates like alum to settle water. Chlorine and ammonia are both added to our water in the form of gases. These gases under heat in our showers can easily be absorbed into skin and hair causing reactions. As well hardness is often an issue with our water, especially calcium and magnesium ions that result in white crusty staining often seen on our kettles, irons and shower heads. Effects of chlorine

Hair

Chlorine is a bleaching agent and as such can affect hair colour and management. Chlorine often crystallises around hair.

Skin

Chlorine is well known to be highly reactive with skin, especially those with sensitivities. This can result in botching, irritation and rashes.

Health

Chlorine is well documented as being a catalyst or trigger bringing on lethargy and tiredness for those with CFS Chronic Fatigue syndrome. The vapours in our showers contain a cocktail of both chlorine and ammonia gases that penetrate the skins pores adding to the woes of those with CFS. Chlorine is also recognised as a carcinogen and best avoided by anyone with any major illness.

Effects of hardness

Hair

Calcium and magnesium ions are often found in our water. They tend to clump and layer around hair follicles making hair heavy and difficult to brush and comb. They also result in the use of additional hair product like shampoos and conditioners as lathering becomes difficult.

Skin

These ions form into deposits creating a film on the surface of our skin blocking skin pores. This affects the natural secretion of essential body oils resulting in dry flaky and sometimes irritable skin. Those with skin conditions like cerriosis and exma can have their conditions exacerbated by these ions.
